Ambrotype: Carpenter and his tool cabinet
One of my favorite old photographs. An ambrotype of a carpenter and his tool cabinet. The tools look like a house framer's set. While I call this a tool cabinet, it might well be a portable tool cabinet for worksite travel.
Underneath the ambrotype was a piece of paper upon which was penciled: "Oh, brother! When shall I see you again." Whether this note refers to a brother who has left on a trip west or to one who has passed, we'll never know.
