19th Century Wood Turner At His Belt Driven Wood Lathe
Here is a small cabinet card from my personal collection
Take a look at that wood lathe! Belt driven, heavy wood frame, wood head and tail stocks. The lathe is setup at a window for best lighting. The turner wears a full body jacket to keep the wood dust at bay. I wonder what drove the lathe? Water wheel? Steam engine?
It has been suggested that the image is from a Scandinavian country.
