The Fastest Train In The World (July 1893)
Designed by Wm. Buchanan M.M.
"New York Central and Hudson River Railroad 999 is a 4-4-0 "American" type steam locomotive built for the New York Central and Hudson River Railroad in 1893, which was intended to haul the road's Empire State Express train service. It was built for high speed and is alleged to be the first steam locomotive in the world to travel over 100 miles per hour (160 km/h), with at least one (questionable) source claiming it reached a maximum speed of 112.5 miles per hour (181.1 km/h)" Courtesy Wikimedia
From when technical drawing was a skilled hand done art form. This two page illustrated plate is from a late 19th century text on technical drawing and drafting. Although I don't own the text, the fold out plate came into my possession as part of an auction lot. I do so admire the precision of the art form.
I added a high resolution image to my Pixels.com shop if you, as do I, admire 19th century Transportation History and Technical Draughting.
