British Air Tight Plane

One of the lesser known wooden plane types is the Air Tight Plane, so called as it formed a tight joint for display cases. In Victorian England, having a display case was a sign of intellect, of societal advancement, of importance. Hence, displaying your philosophical oddities and treasures was an important part of your study, drawing room or entrance foyer.

This is the groove air tight plane, which would have been one half of essentially a small tongue and groove plane set. The maker is, if I remember correctly, Kendall. This is an older photo i used in an Ebay sales post.
