Mechanick Exercises: Or, The Doctrine Of Handy-Works by Joseph Moxon 1703
Available in trade paperback print through The Toolemera Press and now available as a free download. Why? There is a thing in publishing known as The BackList. Books which have been in print for some time, have seen a good sales ratio and are due for something new. For me, that means providing the book in full as a free download.
You can buy the print copy if you don't have one. I won't complain. The pdf is secured and watermarked. Please don't bypass these features. You can copy out sections if you so desire.

Mechanick Exercises: Or, The Doctrine Of Handy-Works was written, printed and published by Joseph Moxon between 1683 & 1685 and reprinted in 1703. The Doctrine Of Handy-Works popularized the guild held secrets of the skilled building trades of Smithing, Joinery, House Carpentry, Turning, Bricklaying and the making of Sun Dials.
Moxon, a mathematician, writer, printer, publisher and maker of maps, globes and scientific instruments, was also the first tradesman member of the Royal Society of London.
Mechanick Exercises: Or, The Doctrine Of Handy-Works, is as important today as a source book of early building trades as it was during the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries.
The Toolemera Press re-publication of the 1703 edition has been produced from the original in my personal library.
